Before Anesthesia

There are a few steps that patients need to take prior to IV Sedation or General Anesthesia.


You may not have anything to eat or drink for 8 hours prior to surgery.

A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office and drive the patient home.

No smoking for 24 hours prior to surgery.

Please wear loose fitting clothing, a short sleeve shirt, if possible and flat-healed shoes.

Contact lenses, jewelry, dentures and oral piercings must be removed prior to surgery.

Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.

The patient should not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours after anesthesia.

If you have illness, such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please call the office.

If you take medicine, follow the instructions given by Dr Coyne during your initial consult.
